Located between two of Seattle's well-loved parks, Ravenna and Green Lake, the Roosevelt neighborhood has stood since the 1920's. The 160 acres of Roosevelt consists of mostly modest wood-frame and Tudor brick homes that were developed in the 1920s. Another one-third of the housing is multi-unit condos, townhomes or apartments. Many homes have views of the Olympics, the Cascades, and some of Seattle's downtown, Mount Rainier, or of local parks and tree-lined boulevards.

More than 4900 residents are proud to call Roosevelt home. Many faculty, staff, and students from nearby University of Washington live here, along with other singles and families who enjoy living "close to everything".

Family-owned businesses make up most of the core commercial area with very few franchise establishments allowed. Along with the two big parks on either side, residents enjoy the popular local playground of Froula Park as well as the grassy play and picnic areas in Cowen Park. In the summer, Cowen's fields are filled with sunbathers making the most of its sunny position. The annual Bull Moose Festival is held every July in Cowen Park as well. Another popular Roosevelt tradition is the monthly motorcycle gathering at Teddy's Tavern - but don't worry, these riders aren't rough, despite the name. The real "roughriders" are down the street at one of Seattle's top high schools; of course, its name is Roosevelt High School. Their drama and music departments are consistently national award winning.
